Johor Bahru's only restaurant specializing in yakitori by a Japanese owner-chef has opened in Mount Austin!
The interior is upscale and relaxing, and the Japanese yakitori is savory and delicately prepared, with an artisanal soul. I thought it must be expensive, but Looking at the menu, I was surprised to see how affordable it is. A stick of this yakitori starts at RM4 !
The owner-chef Mr. Motoshima, who also runs a restaurants in Japan, goes to the market every morning and purchases the nicest parts and rare parts of the chicken (chochin and white liver etc.), which are hard to find in Malaysia, because he is a connoisseur. Kampon chicken is used for the Yakitori. He told me that he is in the process of selecting even better charcoal for grilling, and when I asked him to show it, it was Japanese binchotan (top brand). Amazing!
The side menu is also extensive. The Karaage fried chicken, 100% homemade chicken Paitan soup ramen, and dashimaki tamago are so good that they could be the main course.
I am afraid that if everyone knew about this restaurant, it would be too crowded. A restaurant I really don't want to tell you about.
Open for lunch on weekends. It is a yakitori restaurant of the Awagyu Group.

高級感のある落ち着く内装で、香ばしく繊細な職人魂を感じる日本の焼き鳥。さぞ高いんだろうと思ってメニューを見ると、価格が安すぎて驚きます。この焼き鳥1本がRM4から。

I'm sorry that before visiting, I suspected that the restaurant was only good for large portions. But Actually It was a very tasty, affordable, and nice restaurant.
A restaurant specializing in Japanese-style mega Don (rice bowls) and Kakigori (shaved ice ) opened in Permas City in April 2025.
The restaurant was born when Eddie, an experienced chef with 20 years of experience in Japanese cuisine in Singapore and Malaysia, and Joe, who runs several cafes specializing in shaved ice, met.
The volume of Don is eye-catching, but the taste and price are also very satisfying. The signature dish is a large Don topped with pork ribs so tender they fall apart with chopsticks. The unagi and 2 types meat of char-grilled Don are also very popular. You can also choose a small Don, and it is filled to the brim with many ingredients. Whether you have a small appetite or want to eat a lot, the whole family can enjoy it.
After dinner, don't forget to try the authentic Kakigori. It was so delicious that I finished it even though I was full.

訪れる前は、大盛りだけが取り柄のお店だと疑っていてごめんなさい。とても美味しくてお手頃で、いいお店でした。
Permas City に4月にオープンした日本式メガ盛りどんぶりとかき氷の専門店。シンガポールなどでの和食経験20年の熟練シェフEddie と、かき氷専門カフェを数店舗経営するJoeが出会い、誕生したお店。ボリュームが目を引きますが、それだけでなく、味も価格も全てが大満足。箸で崩れるほどに柔らかいポークリブがぎっしりと載った大盛りの丼がシグネイチャー。うなぎや3種の炭火焼き丼も大人気。小盛りの丼も選べて、具沢山なのが嬉しい。少食の方もたくさん食べたい方も、家族みんなが楽しめます。
食後には、本格かき氷も忘れずに。お腹いっぱいでも完食できるおいしさ。
スープ、キャベツ、副菜はおかわりフリーです。

After meeting at my husband's parents' home in Gifu Prefecture, we stayed overnight at this hotel attached to a roadside station.
It is located in the spacious Gifu Seiryu Satoyama Park in the mountains of Minokamo, just off the highway. The hotel is minimalist and simple. It is clean, has a laundry room, a comfortable lounge, and a coffee machine with free coffee and tea. And you get a discount at the onsite hot-spring bath facility, which also has an outdoor bath.
It was comfortable and relaxing in the green.

岐阜県の主人の実家で両親に会った後、この道の駅併設のホテルに一泊しました。
高速道路を降りるとすぐ、美濃加茂の山の中、広々とした岐阜清流里山公園の中にあります。ホテルはミニマムなシンプルさ。清潔で、ランドリールームや心地よいラウンジがあり、コーヒーマシーンで無料でコーヒーや紅茶が飲み放題。そして敷地内の露天風呂もある温浴施設が割引になります。
緑の中でゆったりできて快適でした。

Gifu Seiryu Satoyama Park, located in Minokamo City, Gifu Prefecture, is a vast urban park (approx. 107 ha) that recreates the satoyama landscape of the 1950s. Wooden schoolhouses, thatched-roof houses, terraced rice paddies, and tea fields line the park, and there are many hands-on attractions such as seasonal flower gardens, lawn slides, athletic facilities, and a farm where visitors can interact with animals. The park also has a local vegetable market, a teahouse, a footbath, and a hot spring called "Satoyama no Yu," making it a park where families can enjoy themselves all day long while relaxing in nature. It would have been cooler and more enjoyable if we had come in spring or fall, but it was a very nice park.
岐阜県美濃加茂市にある「ぎふ清流里山公園」は、昭和30年代の里山風景を再現した広大な都市公園(約107ha)。木造校舎や茅葺屋根の家、棚田・茶畑が並び、四季折々の花畑や芝すべり、アスレチック施設や動物ふれあい牧場など、体験型アトラクションが充実 。園内には地元野菜直売所や茶屋、足湯や温泉施設「里山の湯」もあり、自然の中でリラックスしながら1日中家族で楽しめる公園。春や秋に来たら涼しくてさらに楽しめたと思いますが、とても良い公園でした。

I am temporarily traveling to Japan.
Here is just a short walk from Shibuya Station. I went to this next-generation immersive experience of "image x sound o tactile" that immerses you in the world of Hokusai Katsushika's works.
I was able to zoom in on Hokusai's work to see every detail, and the realistic images, music, vibrations, and wind made me feel as if I were in the work itself.
The "Earth Room," where the floor felt like a puddle of water or ice, was very good.
It is Japanese art entertainment.

日本に一時帰国中です。
ここは渋谷駅からすぐの場所。葛飾北斎の作品の世界に没入できる「映像xサウンド✕触覚」の次世代型イマーシブ体験をしてきました。
北斎の作品を拡大して細部まで見ることができたり、臨場感のある映像と音楽、振動や風によって、作品に入り込んだ気分になりました。
床が水たまりや氷かのように感じる「大地の部屋」とてもよかった。
和のアートエンターテイメントです。

My favorite Colonial cafe at the Majestic Hotel. The atmosphere here is reminiscent of the British colonial era, and afternoon tea is very popular. There is live jazz music every night from about 7:30-10:00 p.m., so I often visit there at night, even by myself, to enjoy a cup of tea or a drink.
This time, I had a friend visiting from Japan and staying at this hotel, so we had the Colonial Sampler Course for dinner.
Colonial cuisine originated from a Chinese from Hainan who worked as a chef for an Englishman.
It is a reimagining of traditional British cuisine with Asian cooking methods, local ingredients, and exotic flavors, a Malaysian-style Western cuisine, so to speak. The nostalgic classic dishes are full of old-fashioned goodness, and the course is unique to the historic Majestic Hotel. It was very tasty and would be very much appreciated by those who are in their 40's or older.It may seem new to foreigners and young people. The bottle of wine starts from RM120.
After the meal, we moved to the sofa to enjoy the jazz music.

ichi-u is a new Japanese restaurant on the G floor of the Sheraton Imperial Hotel.
The restaurant has a warm and beautiful interior. Fish is Air-flown from Japan twice a week, so the sashimi and sushi are very fresh.
A local chef with 17 years of experience in Japanese cuisine prepare dishes.
I particularly liked the restaurant's unique fusion dishes.The "Phoenix Roll" is a prawn tempura wrapped in salmon, with a surprising flame effect. It is a dish that will satisfy those who are looking for visual impact as well as taste. The Chawanmushi with century egg, a hidden favorite, is a must-try dish with two kinds of eggs blended in mild harmony.
The restaurant is recommended for a wide range of occasions, including family anniversaries, gatherings with friends, and dates, as well as for the comfort of the interior and the politeness of the customer service. If you want to enjoy authentic and gorgeous Japanese cuisine at a medium price range, this is one restaurant you should check out. The lunch set menu is also popular.

Kazuo Takizawa, who has honed his skills at Nadaman なだ万, the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine, for 30 years and is currently the head chef at Zipangu, and Michelin chef Matteo Alberti who heads the renowned Italian restaurant Origo in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, have joined forces for an eight-course feast that is truly a cross between the wisdom of Japan and Italy.
Combining traditional Kanazawa culture with Italian culinary techniques and the sensibilities of both chefs, this eight-course meal broke new ground in "contemporary gastronomy," and was composed with an abundance of summer in mind.
Starting with Chef Takizawa's six appetizers in a modern style that showed his respect for Matteo's cuisine, we were treated to large oysters with a rich aroma of aosa seaweed-infused batter, and the first highlight, crispy and flavorful eels served with a refreshing cucumber-infused anchovy and herb sauce. After the Daifuku Mochi with pineapple, we finished with matcha tea by Matteo's wife.
It was a wonderful dinner that was a cross between surprise, nostalgia, and novelty.

マテオ氏の料理へのリスペクトを感じる、モダンなスタイルに仕上げた滝沢シェフの前菜6種からはじまり、アオサ入りの衣の風味豊かな大振りの牡蠣、1番のハイライトは、爽やかなキュウリ入りのアンチョビとハーブのソースでいただくクリスピーで旨みあふれるウナギ。パイナップル入りの大福のあとは、マテオ氏の奥様による抹茶で締めくくりました。
